This necklace is inspired by a retro astronomical instrument, in a steampunk spirit. This jewel is of French artisanal manufacture, in silver 925‰.
Made in Roanne
This necklace is from the line Astronomywhich captures the atmosphere of this science as it was practiced during the Renaissance. This line is inspired by the stars, and astronomical instruments (notably the armillary sphere or astrolabe); but as at that time astronomy and astrology were closely intertwined, this line is also inspired by the constellations and signs of the zodiac. The practice of astronomy in ancient times thus brings us closer to witchcraft, which is why we find the solar shape of the curved mirrors called witch's mirrors. Consequently, we can also see resemblances with contemporary fantasy works, such as the Harry Potter universe...
This jewel is inspired by the armillary sphere, sometimes called astrolabe or armille; a magnificent object very representative of the cabinets of curiosities, it is an instrument which is used to represent the race of the stars in the celestial vault, with the help of rings which come to swivel around a ball.
Thus this necklace represents a ring around a pearl, integrated in a frame decorated with motifs reminiscent of the decorative elements of ancient armillary spheres. It is the smaller version of the Armilla pendant...bigger and harder working. The chain is attached on both sides of the pendant through a decorated element, which makes it an interdependent unit (you cannot detach the chain as on the pendant Petite Armilla). The chain used is the forçat ronde, a robust chain made in France.
The central pearl is a labradorite pearl, used here for its grey-blue reflections reminiscent of those of the Milky Way. The ring is engraved with the 12 zodiacal signs on one side, and "RM, Bijouterie de Curiosités" on the other side; it pivots around the pearl.
By its design and inspiration, this jewel is reminiscent of the time turner from the Harry Potter saga...
The pendant is 28 mm high and 19 mm wide. The central 6 mm bead is a Labradorite.
The necklace is 45 cm long.
The chain is made of round forçat, a robust chain made in France.
