These earrings are from the line Museum.

In French, the word Muséum is used only to refer to Natural History Museums; for the rest, it is called Musée. The Museums came into being in 1791, succeeding the cabinets of curiosities, in response to the need to classify in a more coherent and scientific manner the collections hitherto presented in the cabinets of curiosities.

It is this atmosphere of the Natural History Museums that the line retranscribes, through the animal kingdom represented by different species, and ancient moulded frames.
This jewel was created from the pangolin, a curious animal cousin of the armadillo covered with scales that make it look like a pine cone when it curls up to defend itself. This very particular animal is thus a real object of curiosity.

It is also a harmless animal that feeds mainly on ants, threatened with extinction because it is the most poached animal in the world, more than elephants and rhinos combined! Hunted for its scales, because certain cultures lend it therapeutic or magical virtues; but also for its meat, and its highly appreciated leather...

These loops are decidedly asymmetrical! The animal is represented on the large earring, in a stylized way rolled up on itself, in the center of a frame whose motifs mix its scales with baroque patterns. The whole design of the jewel is conceived in the same way, with motifs of baroque, rocaille or rococo inspiration mixed with the scales of the animal. The small buckle takes motifs from the large one. The back is adorned with engraved motifs and features the initials of the brand, RM.

Thus this pangolin takes its place in the Res Mirum curiosity jewelry as naturalized animals once throned in curiosity cabinets.

The chain used is the forçat ronde, a robust chain made in France.

The lengths of the earrings are 77 mm for the big one and 28 mm for the small one. The bottom piece of the large earring is 27 mm.

Note that the weight of the large earring is 14 g, which is quite significant. One can consider alternating between large and small during the day to relieve the ear. The attachment system is a classic pushchair-stem system. The small one weighs 2.4 g.

The chain used is the forçat ronde, a robust chain made in France.
