This ring is from the Botanical line. The study of plants, one of the oldest human activities, became the science of botany under Ancient Greece. It does not stop evolving over the centuries, and knows some revolutions according to the periods of the History and the various technological advances: the invention of the paper for example, makes it possible to create herbariums. During the Renaissance, this science underwent major developments: botanical collections were to be expressed in cabinets of curiosities. Botanical plates will particularly develop with the discovery of printing, then explorations and the discovery of exotic plant species encourage the creation of imposing orangeries. Later, the mastery of steel and glass will allow the creation of sparkling tropical greenhouses...

This is all that the Botanical Line transcribes. If you are curious to know more about the atmosphere & the history of this line, it is here !

The structure of this jewel evokes that of a botanical greenhouse. These were particularly developed in the 19th century.e century with the industrial revolution; this is why the design of this jewel is also close to the industrial style.

In the centre of the ring is the representation of a mandrake in the manner of a botanical plate: just below is engraved its Latin name "Mandragora officinarum". The mandrake is a strange plant, which has long been the object of legends and superstitions, probably because of its roots, sometimes curiously humanoid in shape...

The Mandrake belongs to the Solanaceae family, hence the name of this ring. This family includes very common edible species such as the potato, tomato, eggplant... and species with medicinal or toxic virtues, such as belladonna, tobacco...

The inside of the ring is signed Res Mirum.

This ring is very beautiful, and the mandrake engraving is very fine. Be careful however, even in S it remains a little big for small hands. But it still makes a very nice thumb ring 😉
